The most wonderful time of the year is finally here and our residents and staff couldn’t be more excited. Throughout the month of December, our services have been busy getting ready for the big day, from decorating their trees to shopping for presents.
As we began to count down the days, we caught up with staff at our services to find out how they have been keeping merry and bright on the run up to Christmas.
Making paper snowflakes
Staff and residents at Recovery Care kicked off the Christmas season by preparing decorations. With festive music playing in the background, everyone got together to make paper snowflakes. A lot of the residents at Recovery Care love arts and crafts, so this was the perfect activity to get them in the Christmas spirit.
Decorating the tree
Next on the list was decorating the tree. This year, residents were treated to personalised baubles, that had been kindly handmade by one of our staff members. Dressed in their Christmas jumpers, residents proudly hung their baubles on the tree for everyone to see. With staff and residents gathered around the tree, it wasn’t long before everyone was singing along to Deck the Halls and Jingle Bells. Some might have even called it an impromptu Christmas carolling session!
Deciding on Christmas Dinner
Every year, our residents receive a delicious three-course meal for Christmas dinner. With a number of options to choose from for their starters, mains and desserts, one of our staff members put together a festive menu for the residents. Decorated with ribbon and presented with a Christmas cookie, residents got a sneak peek at what was to come on Christmas Day.
Shopping for presents
Our staff are on hand to support our residents in any way they can, even with present shopping! This year, one of the residents needed to buy presents for her children, so a couple of staff members offered to take her to Cardiff for the day. Once they had looked around the shops and explored the arcades, there was even time for a visit to Santa’s grotto!
Visiting Bute Park Lights Trail
To finish off the festive season, some of our staff and residents took a trip to the Bute Park Lights Trail in Cardiff. Everyone had a fantastic time visiting the trail and seeing the lights, with it being described as a true spectacle. Since then, residents have had their fingers crossed that the lights will return again next year.
Having ordered all of their presents and chosen their Christmas dinners, residents at Recovery Care can’t wait for Christmas morning.
