Gemma becomes Business Services Apprentice of the Year 2021

We are extremely proud to announce that Gemma Lamoratta, one of our Locality Managers, has been awarded Business Services Apprentice of the Year 2021!

Since 2019, Gemma has been working closely with Danielle George, a Vocational Coach at Aspiration Training, to improve her leadership and management skills. Meeting on a regular basis to discuss her progress, Danielle decided to nominate Gemma after recognising her determination to develop her skills and advance her career. Danielle said, “She has a drive. She wants to be able to show her management skills, which she’s definitely got, and go on further within this company.”

Why Gemma was such a deserving winner

As one of our Locality Managers, Gemma’s role is to oversee the day-to-day running of a selection of our services. Throughout the pandemic, Gemma has been doing everything she can to keep our residents and staff safe. One of the ways she has done this is by implementing a new rota system and asking staff to complete week-long live in shifts. This has ensured residents have continued to receive the support they need, without putting their health at risk.

However, when she’s not been caring for our residents or managing our staff, Gemma has been busy completing a Diploma in Principles of Leadership and Management and an ILM Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Management. With a combined 900 guided learning hours, Gemma has showed great dedication to developing her skills as a manager.

Since completing the courses, Gemma has already started to apply what she has learnt to her role at Recovery Care. For example, one of the courses taught her the importance of communicating and maintaining staff morale, particularly when faced with a crisis. With government guidance and restrictions constantly changing, Gemma has maintained an open conversation with staff in our services, listening to their concerns and responding to their suggestions. By clearly communicating any changes to staff in an understanding manner, Gemma has kept a happy and healthy team of staff members.

What was Gemma’s reaction to winning?

Whilst Gemma and Danielle have been meeting regularly for the past couple of years, Gemma had no idea she had been nominated for the award. She said, “When Danielle phoned me and told me that I’d won the award, I wasn’t sure what she even meant because I had no idea about it. I was really shocked and surprised, but I was really happy at the same time.”

However, at Recovery Care, we weren’t shocked by the results at all. After seeing the hard work that Gemma has put in on a day-to-day basis, we couldn’t think of a more deserving winner and can’t wait to see what she achieves next.
